The Chocolate Lovers' Club by Carole Matthews

A book that mentions ‘chocolate’ in the title is surely going to be a good read isn’t it? This one definitely does not disappoint. The Chocolate Lovers’ Club introduces us into the world of four women: Lucy, Chantelle, Autumn and Nadia. Although the majority of the novel is through the eyes of Lucy, Matthews allows us insight into the troubles of each of the ladies and what they choose to share or keep secret when meeting together in ‘Chocolate Heaven.’

The idea of a chocolate haven, a place to offload all of your worries whilst indulging on a chocolate treat…or two…or three in this case, did seem like heaven. As a reader, you are welcomed into the club and go on a rollercoaster ride with each of the women. You will find yourself wanting to clap, cheer and scream at each turn in the plot but ultimately relax knowing that all will be well with just one more chocolate.

Lucy, the slightly ditzy member of the club, who can’t decide whether Marcus is her soulmate or not, Nadia, facing her own marital problems, Chantelle who is enjoying far too many men as the one at home has closed down on her and Autumn, the seemingly quiet and reserved one, whose family holds many secrets. You can be sure to relate to at least one of the women, and can’t help but want to join the club for real.

A real story of friendship, womanhood and resilience and you can be sure to be searching for more tales of this group of women by the end. However, beware…the amount of chocolate consumed is this book cannot be healthy…try not to go overboard as you munch away whilst reading it.

A great, easy read. Matthews has done it again.
