NiddFest Literary Festival - Celebrating Nature & Writing
In the core of the Yorkshire Dales, an upland area of the Pennines in Northern England, there is a little town called Nidderdale. This settlement is surrounded by an astonishing nature and a breathtaking landscape. Pateley Bridge is a market town in Nidderdale and it will be the main location for the NiddFest, a literary festival with a remarkable mission: to instigate a greater love of nature and books in children and adults. It runs from the 5th to the 7th August 2016.
NiddFest hosts mainly writers who have written books about the environment. Patron of the NiddFest is Carol Ann Duffy, a poet who will also be the presenter of the opening night. Some of the guests will include: Tony Juniper, former director of ‘Friends of the Earth’, and writer, sustainability advisor and environmentalist; Christine Walkden. Satish Kumar will also be present, a world-famous Indian activist and editor. Hattie Garlick, author of Born to be Wild: A Foraging Manifesto, and Nick Davies, field naturalist, zoologist and Professor at the University of Cambridge.
Some of the festival's main locations include isolated churches, a barn transformed in a coffee bar, farms, a riverside tent and the market town. During the three days of the festival, there will be numerous outdoor events in the whole valley and also a schools’ poetry competition.
If you enjoy the environment or writing (or both), this is a perfect occasion to spend some time with your friends and family, to meet some of the British leading writers talking about our planet and its destiny... or just to discover this beautiful region, its countryside and valleys.
